For some reason, lighthouses are special. Whether it’s their picturesque coastline, the romantic symbolism, or their practical function, the lighthouses of the world have been attracting wayward wanderers for centuries. They’ve come a long way, too. Lighthouses predate defined ports by centuries. The first known lighthouse, built in 285 BC, sat on an island off the coast of Alexandria in Egypt.
