4. Cleaning your plate – China
One of the great pleasures of traveling is to have a tasty homemade meal cooked by a local. It’s nice to see someone preparing it from scratch, sometimes using unknown ingredients, and creating a delicious dish – you just feel like eating it all!
If you’re in China, you shouldn’t! As tasty as a meal can be, if you clean your plate, you’re telling the host there’s not enough food or that they’re not feeding you well. So even though you might not want to waste any food, leaving some on the plate is a sign of respect.
