It’s a lot easier to get help in an emergency if people know your location and your travel plans. That way, if you happen to be robbed or find yourself in a sticky situation, it won’t be long until people get worried and start looking for you.
This can be as simple as leaving a detailed plan of your route with loved ones, including hotel arrival and bus/train journey dates. If you tend to wing it, just make a point to send your location every time you arrive at a new destination.
