This black volcanic beach located on the west coast of the Auckland region of New Zealand attracts surfers with its radical waves and nature lovers because of its amazing vistas. The black sands of Muriwai Beach were formed after the eruption of the nearby Kaipara Volcano some 16 million years ago and are now home to a famous colony of gannets, a type of sea bird. This 5-mile strip of beach is the perfect place to take a long stroll or even a horseback ride.
