13 Hot Budget Destinations to Escape the Winter

7. Nkhata Bay – Malawi

Nkhata Bay is just 50 km from Mzuzu, the largest city in Northern Malawi, and one of the best spots to enjoy Lake Malawi. The region is hot throughout the year, but it’s super humid from September all the way to April with the possibility of the odd thunderstorm.

Travelers just need to walk 20 minutes to reach the river beach Chikale. One of the highlights of the area is seeing the feeding of the fish eagle. Many lodges can organize a tour for visitors. Other interesting activities include visiting the Kawalazi coffee plantation nearby or the rubber and tea plantation at Chombe.

6. Bali – Indonesia

Frequently called “The Island of Gods,” Bali is responsible for 80 percent of all travelers visiting Indonesia. When you take into consideration the amazing surf spots, the lush rice plantations, and the welcoming population, it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular place.

Unlike the rest of Indonesia, which is largely Muslim, Bali is chiefly Hindu with over 20,000 temples for travelers to explore. Apart from relaxing at the beaches, it’s also possible to visit active volcanoes, soak in hot springs, do some river rafting, and experience Balinese massage.

5. Mazatlán – Mexico

Mazatlán is considered a cheap resort destination in Mexico, but it’s different from its Caribbean counterparts such as Cancun and Cozumel. It’s a popular retirement destination with many expats from Canada, Europe, and the USA.

There’s plenty to see and do in Mazatlán, but highlights are the historic center, where you can visit El Mercado (the market), the Lighthouse (apparently the highest natural lighthouse in the world), and watching divers jump from 45 feet high cliffs.
