5. Avatar and Lord of the Rings – Wellington, New Zealand
Despite being best known for its mind blowing digital effects and intense realism, parts of Steven Spielberg’s famous movie Avatar were actually filmed in New Zealand. Filming took place in the coastal town of Wellington, on the southwestern tip of the country’s northern island. New Zealand is also home to the famous town of Hobbiton and the many mountains and valleys that Frodo himself traversed in his epic journey with the one ring. The very first day of filming of the trilogy took place on Mount Victoria, which offers breathtaking views of the Wellington city center.
