Ongoing since 2006, the Mexican Drug War continues to capture international headlines while it ravishes different regions and municipalities across the country. 2. Ukraine

Since the end of winter in 2014, Ukraine has been a country in strife. It all began with the Ukrainian Revolution, which saw the ousting of pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, and things have only spiraled since then.

As you might well know, Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula following the revolution, and pro-Ukranian and pro-Russian forces continue to do battle in the eastern and southern sections of the country.

3. Turkey

While the rise of ISIS and its caliphate continues to dominate international headlines, it’s important to remember that the conflict in this region of the Middle East is far more complex.

For example, the Kurdish-Turkish conflict along the border between Turkey and Iraq has been ongoing since 1984. In total, this one conflict alone has been claiming thousands of lives every year and shows no signs of abating.
