12. Kitesurfing – Tarifa, Spain
Kites have been used to propel boats or carts on land since the 1800s, but it wasn’t until 1977 that the first patent for kitesurfing was created. However, in 1997, the Legaignoux brothers developed the Wipika kites and by the end of 1998, kitesurfing was an extreme sport practiced all over the world.
It’s a mix of wakeboarding, surfing, and paragliding, where a person surfs using a kite to harness wind power. Due to consistent strong winds, 300 days of sun, and relatively cheap costs, Tarifa is one of the best locations to practice kitesurfing.
