4. The Bridge of Sighs, Venice
The Bridge of Sighs, one of most famous sights in all of Venice, has a fascinating history. Originally, it connected the courts at Doge’s Palace with the New Prison. All condemned criminals had to pass over the bridge after their trial, and it is said that while standing on the bridge and looking out over their city for the last time, they all sighed.
