Kigali Genocide Memorial Center – Kigali, Rwanda
During a 100-day period from the beginning of April 1994 to mid-July, an estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 Tutsis were killed by Hutus in Rwanda. Approximately 70% of the Rwandan Tutsi population was massacred. Attackers were members of the Rwandan Army, National Police, and civilians. The Kigali Genocide Memorial Center was officially opened in April 2004, 10 years following the start of the massacre, and pays tribute to many of the victims.
