Shanghai, China
As the most populous city in the world, Shanghai has always been a center for tourism, but has only recently started to attract visitors because of its art scene. In addition to the Shanghai Museum, and the China Art Museum, which house large collections of painting, historical artifacts, and bronze statuary, Shanghai also supports local artists and encourages collaboration. The M50 contemporary art district was formerly a mill, and was taken over by artists like Xue Song, Ding Yi, and Wang Xingwei who transformed it into public gallery spaces and studios.
