16 Best Places to Vacation in the Summertime
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is special for many reasons, but one of the best things about it is that it’s small enough to not be overwhelming, yet large enough to have plenty of interesting neighborhoods, lots of culture and museums, and great food. It’s walkable and bikeable, so summer is the perfect time to go.
Plan to visit the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum — both are excellent. Skip Amsterdam’s most notorious neighborhood and walk along the canals in some of the beautiful residential neighborhoods. Take a break and dangle your legs over a quiet canal. For sightseeing further afield, head out to Edam and rent a bike — you can ride for hours and not get tired on the extremely flat terrain — or take the train to Zandevoort, a beach community right on the sea.
