Dug and used by the Viet Cong soldiers, they served as a massive transportation system that stretched far across the country, transporting food, weapons, and infantry right under the feet of their enemies. The entrances into the tunnels were very well hidden, and often rigged with booby traps, so it was very difficult to shut a tunnel down even if it’s location was discovered.
