5. Tempura
Another Japanese dish that’s become famous internationally is tempura, which encompasses a whole range of ingredients that are battered, then fried in oil. The panko crumb batter is both crisp and light, which makes it particularly appealing. Typical ingredients in a tempura dish are shrimp and vegetables like sweet potato or green beans. Tempura is often served on its own with a dipping sauce and a sprinkle of salt, but can be added to other dishes like ramen or soba as a topping.
