Go Before It’s Gone: The Top Ten Last-Chance Tourist Destinations
| September 17, 2018
8. Mount Kilimanjaro
As Africa’s tallest mountain that sits at 19, 341 feet, tourists are flocking to the top of this global attraction before all the snow that covers it, is gone. In fact, over the past century approximately 80 percent of the Furtwangler Glacier atop Mount Kilimanjaro has disappeared, and there are those who believe it will all be gone by 2035.
Interestingly enough, the ice is not melting, rather, the sunlight at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro stimulates water molecules, re-routing them, where the development of ice is tuned into a gas without even becoming liquid first. The increased dryness seems to be the contributing factor here.
