6. The Dead Sea
As the globe’s saltiest sea, travelers from around the world bathe in the Dead Sea’s muddy waters and marvel in its beauty. While the Dead Sea is technically a lake, this doesn’t stop people from flocking to this global attraction. Sadly though, thanks to fertilizer production and agricultural purposes, this body of water is draining at fast speeds. In fact, the average rate that this lake is dropping is five feet annually. As a result, sinkholes and receding shorelines have plagued resorts in the area, leaving them about a mile away from the shore. Researchers estimate that in five decades, the Dead Sea might be gone all together.
