Beijing wowed the world with the over-the-top spectacle and incredible athletic accomplishments at the 2008 Olympic Games. Though their Olympic stadiums may still leave you slack jawed, it’s for all of the wrong reasons.

China spent an estimated $40 billion on infrastructure in preparation for the Olympic Games. Some of those buildings are still in operation, but the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park isn’t one of them. As you can tell from these pictures, the Shunyi park hasn’t hosted a rowing competition in a while. Because, well … rowing requires water.
