Making its mark as a small host
PyeongChang is the smallest city to host a Summer or Winter Olympics since 1994 when Lillehammer, Norway was the site. The entire area of PyeongChang is just 565.12 square miles with the population registering at 43,666 – a number sure to swell with the Winter Olympics in town.
In comparison, Lillehammer is 184 square miles and has a population of 27,476. Also, the most recent Winter Olympics, which took place in Sochi, Russia, has a population of over 343,000 inhabitants.
