Most Interesting Tiny Island Vacations

Aitutaki – Cook Islands

Aitutaki is a tiny island located in the Cook Islands chain and is accessible by both sea and air. The reason why the island is accessible by plane is because American GIs stationed there during the Second World War built airstrips, which are still in use today. Some of the Americans who were stationed there chose to stay after the war, and their descendants mingled with the local population.

Once you get to the island, there are a few hotels and tour organizations that cater to tourists, but they’re small enough that they don’t alter the character of the landscape.
