Mount Fuji
Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan, and is one of three mountains in the country considered holy. In fact, it was forbidden for women to climb the mountain until the 20th century.
Mt. Fuji is actually a volcano. Legend has it that the fire within the mountain was started by an emperor who fell in love with a princess from the moon. She rejected his advances because she wanted to return to her homeland. The moon princess gave the emperor an immortality potion when she left. In his sadness, the emperor had his men burn the potion on Mt. Fuji so that the princess might see it. It’s this fire that has been burning since.
