Myth and Legend: The Best Supernatural Landmarks of Scotland

Culloden Field

Even though it was a very real battle that happened here, many people feel a supernatural kind of wonder when visiting Culloden Field. It was in this spot that the Jacobite army supporting young Prince Charles Edward Stuart was decimated by the English forces. Along with the deaths of thousands of young men, this battle marked the end of the Highland way of life. After their victory, the English exacted terrible punishments on the clans who rebelled, and the English and Scots settled down to an uneasy truce. To this day, people leave white roses and other tributes on the heather bushes to honor the dead and to declare their allegiance to the Scottish hero Bonnie Prince Charlie.
