The Best American Restaurant Rivalries of All Time
| August 29, 2018
New York City’s classic delicatessens are still going strong, fueled by tourism dollars, as well as their resident patrons who usually slide in for take out on their way home from work.
Two of the most famous NYC delis are Katz’s Deli, on East Houston Street in the East Village, and Second Avenue Deli, on East 33rd and 2nd Avenue, toward Midtown. Both serve up legendary pastrami sandwiches, and have been battling it out since the 50s, when Second Avenue Deli first opened its doors.
Overall, both sandwiches are excellent, but people who want more pastrami tend to choose Katz’s for their thick, hand-sliced meat.
