Located in Frankfort, Kentucky, is one of the oldest and most fabled distilleries in the United States — Buffalo Trace. They’ve been open since 1792, which makes them only a few years younger than the United States itself. They were even allowed to remain open during Prohibition, so they could continue making their whiskey for medicinal purposes.
The distillery itself is huge, and makes dozens of different varieties of bourbon, rye, and even vodka, which are then sold under different names and brands depending on their makeup and quality. Some of their most famous brand names are the eponymous Buffalo Trace Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, and Pappy Van Winkle’s.
