The Most Breathtaking Libraries

Nakajima Library
Location: Akita, Japan
Made entirely of wood from the Akita cedar tree, the Nakajima Library is a comforting place, with the faint smell of cedar released by the wood helping visitors relax. Add the building’s elegant design to all of this and it’s no wonder that this library is considered the most beautiful in Japan!
Built in a semi circle, the building was designed to have plenty of open space inside to facilitate studying and learning. The roof of the library was made using traditional Japanese construction techniques and resembles an open umbrella spreading out over the center workspace.
The Nakajima Library is often called the “book colosseum” and it’s easy to see why.
