3. South Africa – Cape Town
Overlooking the seaside city of Cape Town is Table Mountain, a 1089 meter ascent to one of the most spectacular natural views of the land and ocean in Africa. On a clear day, you can see Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was kept prisoner for 18 years. A ferry ride and tour of the island prison, now designated as a World Heritage Site by United Nations, can be arranged to give you a glimpse of South Africa’s apartheid past. Then, you can head out to Boulders Beach to frolic with a colony of 1000 or so wild penguins that call Cape Town their home.
