The Leaning Tower of Pisa
It just isn’t a trip to Italy without a visit to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This famous tower, conveniently located in the city of Pisa, is a popular tourist attraction known for its unique architecture.
The lean for which the Leaning Tower of Pisa known is caused by an inadequate foundation, and began when the tower was constructed in the 12th century. The lean slowly worsened over many centuries and threatened the tower’s collapse, such that stabilization efforts were undertaken between 1964 and 2008. Through the addition of counterweights, support cables, and ground removal around the base, the tower was made stable, with its characteristic lean maintained.

The Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain, located in Rome, is one of Italy’s most famous landmarks. This grandiose fountain features elaborate carved figures, including the god Neptune, Tritons, sea horses, and a young girl.
It has appeared in many movies, including Roman Holiday and La Dolce Vita. When you stop by the fountain, be sure to throw a coin in to ensure you’ll safely return to Rome.

Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that famously destroyed the town of Pompeii in the year 79 CE, is now a tourist attraction surrounded by a national park. Although Vesuvius still occasionally erupts, (though recent eruptions have been much less violent than the famous eruption of 79 CE) you can actually visit the summit and peer down into the crater if you’re up for a little walking.
