West Beach –  Gulf Shores, Alabama

West Beach is one of the smaller beaches in the popular Gulf Shores area of Alabama, which makes it an ideal location for vacationers who want to beat the crowds. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, near the Florida-Alabama border, this area is home to the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge – 7,000 acres of protected land including many gorgeous sand dunes, trails, and beaches. West Beach is right between the ocean and a lagoon, which allows you to experience two very different ecosystems in one trip.

Twelvemile Beach – Lakeshore, Michigan

Twelvemile Beach is a popular camping destination – all of the sites are located on the cliffs that overlook the beach, which allows you an amazing view of Lake Superior. The camping sites are very close to a set of stairs that lead to the beach below, where you can fish, swim, and suntan to your heart’s content.

It’s a great destination if you’re looking for something a little bit different than the usual beach experience. There are plenty of hiking trails just off the beach, which guide you through the forest and to nearby landmarks like the Au Sable Light Station, and visible shipwrecks just offshore.
