Travel Destinations to Avoid in 2018

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Ever since everyone and their mother became obsessed with HBO’s Game of Thrones, tourists have taken over the beautiful seaside city of Dubrovnik much to the chagrin of its locals and historians. This southern Croatian city located on the Adriatic Sea boasts a historical 16th Century stone quarter known as Old Town which famously doubled as King’s Landing and Qarth in the hit fantasy series.

Although the show’s popularity has led to a welcome 10 percent boost in tourism, it has also threatened the city’s UNESCO World Heritage status, leading the city to place a cap on the number of tourists allowed in each day in an effort to preserve the historic town.
