This festival, known as the Famadihana, is celebrated in many different parts of Madagascar. During the festival, people come to the burial tombs of their ancestors, and take the bones out of the crypt. They then lovingly re-wrap them in fresh cloth, and joyfully dance with the bones to the accompaniment of traditional music. This festival allows people to honor their ancestors, as well as connect with their living extended family. The Famadihana festival is a joyful time, not to obsess about death, but to celebrate their family unity.
