Shakespeare and Company Bookshop is located in Paris’ artsy Left Bank area. Their claim to fame is that they offer any traveler the opportunity to work in the bookstore and sleep among the books. This tradition has been a part of the bookstore’s ethos since they opened in 1951.
The only requirement is that you put in some time working in the bookstore every day, and are open to sharing your space with others. These travelers are called Tumbleweeds, and there have been an estimated 30,000 people who have stayed at Shakespeare and Company since it opened.
