You Really Need an Idiot String
Losing one mitten to the snow and slush while its mate remains securely in your pocket is a terrible hazard of Canadian winters. Smart Canadian parents avoid this by tying a string to both mittens, then passing the string through the arms of their child’s jacket. This usually keeps both mittens safe. While this is humorously referred to as an “idiot string,” it can come in handy for Canadians of all ages.
