20 Reasons to Quit Your Job and Travel

5. Explore different cultures

I believe this is one of the main reasons why people travel. Maybe you’ve always wanted to get a ride in a tuk-tuk in Thailand. Or really understand how people live in the Amazon. Or you heard about the Berber tribes in Morocco and decided you want to experience that. The world is vast and there’s no better way to learn about it than exploring it yourself.

6. Get a new perspective

Have you ever had that friend who was richer and could afford anything? And because of that, you felt poor? Have you complained when you had to wait for that dentist appointment? When you travel, you often see how lucky you are. When you see happy people living in mud huts, you realize you’re not poor at all. When you see people who don’t even have access to proper health clinics, you tend to be grateful for your life back home.

7. Learn more about yourself

Sometimes you act in a specific way because you’re constrained by your environment — people expect “you to be you.” When you’re visiting a new country by yourself, no one knows you and you literally can be whomever you want to be! So if you’ve always considered yourself shy, for instance, you could potentially be very outgoing given the right setting.

8. Take a break

Are you stuck in a crazy 70-hour week job? Or maybe your partner is having a hard time accepting that you need some time for yourself? It doesn’t matter the reason — sometimes we just need a break.

Traveling can be a great way to empty your mind of concerns. For a period, you just focus on enjoying yourself and it’s easier to see past the daily fog.
