7. You’ll Be Reminded That Despite All the Bad in the World, It’s Still a Happy Place
When you turn on the news, you always hear the worst stuff. Wars, hunger, poverty, death, greed and deceit, good people losing everything they have, bad people getting everything they want. And yet, even though there is so much wrong in the world, even though it seems like we’ll never be able to fix all the injustices that we see every single day, people are still happy.
And it’s not just upper-middle class people in the western world with every modern convenience money can buy either. If you were to travel to the poorest slums of the world, it’s easy to expect everyone to be depressed, to look dead inside, to be beaten down by society. But they’re not.
Even in the worst conditions you can find people smiling, making the best of what they have and enjoying life. And when you see that even people who have nothing can find something to be happy about, you start to realize that maybe this world’s not such a bad place after all.
And when we hear about all those bad things, we can face them with newfound hope. As Sam the hobbit once said, “there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.”
