German workers are entitled to a minimum of 20 days off, although there are often exceptions made which grant workers up to 30 days off per year. For example, civil employees are entitled to a minimum of 30 days off per year.

Public holidays vary between regions. There are nine paid public holidays that are celebrated by the entire country every year, but many regions have their own holidays, such as Carnival Rose day or Friedensfest, which entitles workers in those cities to another paid day off. Many German workers work on Saturdays, and the six-day work week is capped at 48 hours.
