Chanctonbury Ring
Although we know that this ring of giant beech trees in West Sussex were planted by human hands, it still doesn’t make them any less creepy. The hill that these trees are planted on is thought to be a uniquely powerful spot, where many people have had unexplained sightings of spirits, ghosts, or even UFOs.
There is a local superstition that if you go up to the hill and walk backwards seven times around the ring of trees, you’ll summon the Devil. If you don’t want to chance that, explore the area during daylight hours.
