The World in Potato Dishes
6. Massaman Curry – Thailand
Massaman curry is actually a variation on a Persian dish of a similar nature, but the Thais have made it unique to their own palates. With main ingredients like beef, coconut milk, potatoes, and lots of different spices, massaman curry is super filling. One large pot could feed a person for a few days!
But be warned, this dish is incredibly spicy and not for the faint of heart.
5. Papa Rellena – Peru
Since the potato was originally domesticated in Peru, it makes sense that the Peruvians have figured out a way to turn the vegetable into something truly amazing. Papa rellena is a type of croquette made by filling baked potato dough with diced beef and onions before being deep-fried. Golden and crispy on the outside, but savory and soft on the inside, papa rellena is sold on many street corners in Peru.
4. Raclette – Switzerland
Raclette is technically a type of Swiss cheese, but as a dish, the cheese is melted and scraped onto your meal. Almost like portable fondue, one of the best ways you can enjoy this salty cheese is over potatoes, ham, and pickled onions. It’s highly recommend that you try Kirsch, a Swiss herbal tea, along with your cheesy meal of goodness.
