14. Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta – Albuquerque, NM

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no…it’s 500 hot air balloons. Each year, during the first week of October, visitors can see the Albuquerque skies filled with the bright colors of hot air balloons during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. The fiesta started in 1972 with just 13 balloons and today attracts over 500 balloons and over 10,000 spectators. There are several events and competitions during the nine-day celebration, including The Flight of Nations, where balloons from different countries take off to their national anthem playing. This festival is just as enjoyable for the spectator as it is for the participant.
