Venezuela, a country run by a socialist government, has dealt with the Zika virus in a very different way from many of the other countries in South America. Instead of telling the public about the risks associated with the virus and ways to avoid it, it has cut off the flow of information and downplayed the seriousness of the virus. Many outside sources believe that Venezuela has the second-largest total of Zika cases worldwide, but it’s impossible to tell because the government refuses to release the actual numbers.
