5. Embedded Engine

According to Airbus, the leading airplane manufacturer, the engines of the future will be further embedded within the frame of the plane, positioned at the rear to save fuel and decrease noise in the cabin. As such, the familiar vertical tail section can be eliminated altogether because its purpose is to counterbalance the engines up front, tucked under the wings. Look for sleeker and more futuristic designs that will look more like starships than airplanes.
