7 Things You Must Do in Ecuador

Check into an eco-tourism lodge in the Oriente

The Oriente is Ecuador’s claim to the Amazon rainforest. You can do just about everything found over the border in Brazil but at a fraction of the cost. The one exception is a boat ride on the Amazon River itself. Find a lodge as far off the beaten path as possible and become one with the jungle. Mine involved a three hour bus ride down a dirt road, followed by a three hour motorized canoe ride along one of the Amazon River’s tributaries. Like an African safari, a trip to the Oriente is one you’ll want to relive again.
