7 Things You Must Do in Ecuador

Careen down Devil’s Nose on a train
Warning! If you can’t handle roller coasters, you probably want to skip this activity. The Devil’s Nose is part of Ecuador’s once antiquated rail system. The railway was built in 1901 to connect Quito, which sits at 2,800 meters above sea level, with Guayaquil on the coast. While the entire system is quite tumultuous, with tracks that hug mountain cliffs and dip into rocky ravines, Devil’s Nose has always been the most dangerous section. Most of the railway fell into disarray in the 1970s, but Devil’s Nose always remained open for thrill seeks looking to enjoy the ride that drops 500 meters in less than 12 kilometers through a series of switchbacks.
