Masala Chai
In North America, chai tea is considered an indulgence best left for fall and winter. In India, where this delicious beverage originates, masala chai is served in cafés and by street-side chai wallah vendors year-round — it’s thought that the hot drink can help equalize the internal temperature with the external temperature, leading to a more comfortable experience even when its 100°F outside. Although research on that belief is dubious at best, masala chai is a daily custom for many. In India, a mixture of black tea and spices like cardamom and ginger are boiled together until the mixture is deeply flavored. Sugar is added, and the whole mix is poured into a small cup and enjoyed.
