12 Ways to Travel Responsibly

5. Give Money Responsibly
It can be hard to see a child begging for money in a developing country and do nothing — but it’s actually the right thing to do. By giving them money you’re encouraging kids to stay out of school and even if you just give them candies, you might be unintentionally contributing to a tooth decay problem in children.
However, it can be worse. If you’ve seen Slumdog Millionaire, and learned about gangs crippling children for profit, then you should know that’s not a fantasy and it really happens. Another problem, especially for big tippers, is that it changes the local economy. Why study to be an engineer if you can earn more as a taxi driver?
