When my siblings and I dressed up in traditional Uighur outfits for Halloween one year, we were shocked that people didn’t automatically recognize the distinctive silks of a Chinese minority group. Our older sister’s travels to China and the gifts she brought back made the world more accessible, and opened our eyes to international topics early on.
My brother was thinking the same thing when he moved his family to Uruguay for a few months (while he opened a new branch of his surfboard company). Even though they were only there temporarily, the chance to experience a new culture was too valuable to pass up.
