20 Fantastic Places to Discover in the Alps
10. Lake Geneva, Switzerland & France
You can start an entire adventure along this lake (the largest alpine one), also known as the sapphire sea in the Alps’ heart. Over the centuries, this wonderful place served as inspiration for hundreds of artists from many fields, from writers and poets to painters and musicians.
The largest towns situated on its banks are Geneva and Lausanne; the lake is also known for the famous Montreux and Vevey resorts (located in Switzerland) as well as Thonon-les-Bains and Évian-les-Bains (France).
Turning back to our beloved artists, let me tell you that Geneva was the place which arose works like Frankenstein (Mary Shelley), The Idiot (Dostoevsky), while Lausanne inspired Victor Hugo, T.S. Eliot, Tolstoy and Voltaire. Feeling more inspired now? I thought so!
