FNB Stadium
South Africa’s FNB (First National Bank) Stadium broke ground in 1986 in the city of Johannesburg and, with a capacity of over 94,000, it’s the largest stadium in Africa. It played host to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, it was where Nelson Mandela held his first speech upon his release from prison, and it’s where they held his memorial service in 2013. Its unique design has lead locals to dub it The Calabash, though most prefer the more literal nickname, Soccer City.
