Boll Weevil Monument, Enterprise Alabama
It’s hard to believe that nobody thought to build a statue honoring an insect before the good folks of Enterprise, Alabama built a monument to the cotton-crop devouring boll weevil. This unusual statue of a classical Greek marble figure triumphantly brandishing one of the ugly black bugs over its head was built in 1919 to honor the pest for forcing local farmers to diversify their crops when it destroyed the cotton, thus improving their economy.
