5. Colorado House (Wells Fargo History Museum)
Built in 1851 by Cave Johnson Couts (lieutenant in the U.S. Army Dragoons), the Colorado House served as a saloon, hotel and gaming parlor. The building is operated nowadays by Wells Fargo as a telegraph office and stage stop and reveals to us astonishing things about mining, overland travel and banking during the early American West.
Facing the beautiful plaza, Colorado House greets us elegantly and is eager to show us its collection of artifacts and historical documents (with Spanish and English text plates), a Concord stagecoach (1868), a perfectly working telegraph and a re-created stagecoach stop.
Get ready to feel the fancy vibe of the 19th century as soon as you see the stylish, graceful stagecoach and discover more of the house’s hidden treasures.
