Most cars have Bluetooth now, which will let you sync up your phone if you have Spotify or other (non-internet/data-using) apps. But there’s also AUX jacks to hook up your iPod, or the classic CD player. We brought a couple of options, in case an app stopped working.

We also downloaded a few iTunes U lectures to listen to when music got old and we were all talked out. These lectures really helped on our last day driving. If I was to do it again, I would try to find an audible book about Iceland (or Icelandic folktales) to put on for occasional short stories. Icelandic poetry would also be a good idea–it’s beautiful stuff!
