America’s 15 Best Towns for Halloween
| October 31, 2016
Manitou Springs, Colorado
Each year, the tiny town of Manitou Springs in Colorado hosts the Emma Crawford Festival, which memorializes a young pianist who came to Colorado to seek the healing power of a local spring to cure her tuberculosis. She died two years later, and was buried at the top of nearby Red Mountain.
Now, local residents memorialize the sad Emma by hosting a coffin race every year, where teams of 5 can enter and race their chosen coffin down the streets of Manitou Springs. Sure, it’s morbid, but that’s what Halloween is all about!
